South Dakota Native Bill Even Will Provide Pork Industry Update.
Third Annual AgVocate of the Year Award Will Be Announced
SIOUX FALLS, SD - Agriculture United for South Dakota will host its annual luncheon to recognize the state's farm and ranch families on Monday, December 12, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, 1201 Northwest Ave., Sioux Falls. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the meal at 11:45 a.m. The annual luncheon event is an opportunity for Ag United to acknowledge the South Dakota farmers, ranchers and ag professionals who have played a part in telling agriculture's story to their friends and neighbors across the region throughout the year.
Bill Even, a native of Humboldt, South Dakota, and current Chief Executive Officer of the National Pork Board, will deliver the keynote address. Even previously served as South Dakota Secretary of Ag, and took on the CEO role at the National Pork Board in summer 2016 with responsibility for the nation's pork checkoff efforts. He will provide an update on the pork industry and its impact on South Dakota agriculture and economy.
"We are excited to have Bill return to South Dakota to share his insights on the pork industry and its role in South Dakota." said Steve Dick, executive director of Ag United. "Bill has been a long time champion of South Dakota farm and ranch families and has volunteered for Ag United at several events in the past."
The luncheon will also include the announcement of the third annual Ag United AgVocate of the Year. The award will recognize an individual or family in South Dakota who has gone above and beyond in sharing their story with the public.
Ag United has been supporting South Dakota farm and ranch families and rural communities for 12 years in a variety of roles. Programs like Restaurant Crawls, Adopt-A-Farmer videos, Farms After Five, and Moms' Day Out on the Farm and have helped introduce the stories of modern agriculture to South Dakota consumers. Ag United works with farm families to host open house events and tours at their farms, providing the opportunity for neighbors and community members to see firsthand how crops are raised and animals are cared for. Ag United has also helped the state's livestock producers start or expand their operations during the planning and permitting processes.
