Know Your Farmer
Posted: 4/19/2016
We all eat 3 times a day, which means that every person, all around the world is impacted by a daily by a farmer. When you sit down to eat, most people probably don’t give much thought to the people behind their meal. There’s a good chance that a different farmer grew each food you’re eating. A farmer tended to the crops and livestock for months and sometimes years before they left the farm and were sent to a manufacturer or grocery store.
When you’re eating, you rarely think about the person that was most involved in your meal, and you probably don’t know them. The next couple weeks in Watertown and Aberdeen community members will have the opportunity to meet the farmer behind their food at the Know Your Farmer Dinner.
The dinner will feature pork, dairy, corn, and soybeans, just a few of the delicious food items that farmers grow in South Dakota. We’re excited to talk about the impact that farmers have on our communities and state.
Next time you sit down to a meal, take a moment to think about the farmers that grew your food. If you don’t know a farmer and would like to meet one, contact us at info@agunited.org and we’ll connect you with a farmer that can answer your questions.
