Discussion:  Peter told us that some people wonder if it is good for the cattle to be transported together in a trailer.  He then told us that cattle are similar to people because they are social creatures.  Why may it be better for cattle to be transported in groups rather than separately?  *Often times loading livestock can be difficult because they are unfamiliar with the area you are trying to get them to go into (the trailer).  When the cattle are in a group it often helps keep them a little calmer and they can be easier to load.

Core Content Standard & Question 4.OA.2 Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison.

• Peter buys a load of market cattle weighing about 800 pounds a piece.  These cattle will gain approximately 3.5 pounds per day while in the feedlot.  How many days will it take them to be considered market ready, around 1250 pounds?
