Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
- Help Jim complete his year-end report. Jim spent $250 per acre planting corn. In the fall he harvested 125 bushels per acre. Then he sold his corn for $3.00 per bushel. What was Jim’s profit for each acre? (Hint: Subtract expenses from money made for selling corn.)
