Discussion: Adam told us that he usually plants his corn in April but had to wait until May this year because it was too cold and wet. He waited to plant his seeds until the soil temperature was about 50 degrees. Why does Adam wait until the temperature gets warm to plant the seeds? Have any of you helped plant a garden? If you have, when do you plant the seeds in your garden?
Core Standard & Question: 4.OA.2 Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison
- If Adam is going to plant 90 acres of corn, how many bags will he need to use?
*30,000 seeds per acre: 30,000x90=2,700,000 seeds
*80,000 seeds per bag: 2,700,000/80,000=33.75 bags
