Agriculture organizations give South Dakota parents and families an opportunity to learn about farm life.

SIOUX FALLS, SD –  This summer, South Dakotans will have an opportunity to experience where their food comes from and observe how farm families care for their animals and the land. Ag United, in partnership with South Dakota farm women through a program called CommonGround, will host several farm tours this July in order to help bridge the gap between people who grow food and the people who buy it.

Dates and details of the events are as follows:

Know Your Milk Tour – June 19th -  Participants will learn how milk goes from the cow to your refrigerator on this family-friendly tour of a Sioux Falls area dairy farm. This tour is open to parents and kids 8 years of age and older.

Aberdeen Mom’s Day Out on the Farm – July 11th - Participants will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes at local dairy, beef and hog farms. They will also get a tour of the Wheat Growers Agronomy Center and a complimentary lunch will be provided.

Farms After Five Tour – July 18th – This tour is open to men and women, and is perfect for working adults. This shortened tour kicks off after business hours in the Sioux Falls area.  Complimentary supper will be provided

Sioux Falls Mom’s Day Out on the Farm - July 21st - Sioux Falls Moms, this is your chance to spend the day on area beef, dairy and hog farms. Learn about how your food is raised, meet other moms and connect with farmers. Complimentary lunch will be provided.

Every participant will receive $50 in beef, pork or grocery certificates as well as other gifts. Four lucky participants from every tour will receive $100 in grocery gift cards.

South Dakotans are chosen to participate in the tours based on their completion of a short survey. Area farmers and agricultural professionals involved with pork production, cattle feeding, dairy farming and crop production will also participate in the tours to offer explanations and answer questions.
