Core Standard & Question: 4.OA.2 Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison.
* Peter told us that the world population grows by the size of the state of South Dakota (800,000) every 3 days. How much does the world population grow by in just one day?

Discussion: Many of us get a flu shot each year, or vaccinations against disease when we are young. Peter cares about his animals and wants them to stay healthy.

* It is important to know that cattle given vaccinations can not be sold with traces of the vaccine in their system. A “withdrawal time” is given for each drug that can be used. It is illegal to sell cattle that have recently been given antibiotics. Meat is also tested to make sure no antibiotics are present before being sold.
