MILLER, S.D.-South Dakota Ag in the Classroom (SDAITC), South Dakota Farm Families and the South Dakota Value Added Ag Development Center are sponsoring an essay contest for all South Dakota third- and fourth-graders and high school seniors in South Dakota.

The themes of the contest revolve around agricultural products that are grown, produced and processed in South Dakota. The topic for the third and fourth grade contest is “My favorite South Dakota grown product” and the senior contest topic is “If I could develop one new South Dakota ag product, it would be…”

“Agriculture is the number one industry in South Dakota,” said Ann Price, SDAITC executive director. “There is no way to live an ‘ag-less’ day. Everything we do revolves around agriculture and it’s important to realize the impact ag has in South Dakota. This contest is designed to help students recognize that connection.”

Winners in the third and fourth grade categories will receive a classroom pizza party and a certificate. The winner of the high school contest will receive $250 cash.

Entries are due March 11, 2016, and winners will be announced beginning March 14.
