Area foodies dine with South Dakota farmers at annual event

SIOUX FALLS, SD -- South Dakota food lovers will have a unique opportunity on November 9th.  Not only will they be able to sample delicious poultry dishes at a few of Sioux Falls' top restaurants, they'll also be dining with the farmers who made the meal possible.

The Poultry Crawl is set for November 9th in Sioux Falls. The Poultry Crawl is a progressive dinner where participants will enjoy a poultry appetizer, entrée and dessert at three downtown restaurants.

This year, Prairie Berry Winery will be serving the appetizer along with a wine pairing. Ode to Food and Drink will be serving the entrée, with Queen City Bakery serving dessert. Each restaurant will be featuring turkey, chicken, or eggs in their dish.

“We’re excited to have three excellent restaurants participating in the Sioux Falls Poultry Crawl”, stated Rebecca Christman, South Dakota Farm Families Outreach Director.  “Each chef is working on preparing something delicious for the evening.”

Throughout the evening, area poultry producers will be mingling amongst guests and answering questions about their farms and today’s poultry production.  The Poultry Crawl is designed to acquaint consumers with local poultry producers and encourage consumers to eat poultry while dining out.

“We see the Poultry Crawl as another opportunity for South Dakota foodies to meet those who grow our food and ask questions about today’s poultry production.” said Rebecca Christman, South Dakota Farm Families Outreach Director.  “Many consumers are not only interested in eating tasty food, but also learning where their food comes from.”

This is the fourth year that South Dakota Farm Famlilies is hosting a series of Restaurant Crawl events. In past years South Dakota Farm Families has also hosted a Pork Crawl and Beef Crawl in Sioux Falls, and similar events in Rapid City, Vermillion and Brookings.

The Poultry Crawl will start at Prairie Berry Winery on the East Bank at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $35 per person. For more information or to sign up, visit www.agunited.org. You can also contact Rebecca Christman at South Dakota Farm Families at (605) 336-3622 or Rebecca@agunited.org.
