National Ag Week Activities

Posted: 3/12/2015

March 15th through 21st is National Ag Week, but here at South Dakota Farm Families we are starting the celebration early.  This week and next we will be visiting six schools on the eastern side of South Dakota.  Students from Milbank to Yankton will be visited by local farmers to learn more about where their food comes from.

During National Ag week school visits, a dairy farmer and a pork producer visit each classroom. They tell the students about what they do on their farm, and how the products from the farm end up on students’ plates in the form of pizza.  Then the students get to put what they learned in to action by having a pizza party!

Local farmers will also be giving back through Farmers Serving Families.  40 volunteers will help prepare and serve a meal at The Banquet on Thursday, March 12.

Are you looking for a fun way to entertain your kiddos? Visit the South Dakota Farm Famlies booth at Ag Day at the Pavillion on March 21st! We'll be making Total Mixed Ration (TMR) snack bags.  It's also a great time for parents to learn more about our summer farm tours.

National Ag Week is a great time for all of us to celebrate the farmer that produces our food.  46,000 South Dakota farmers are working day in and day out to keep food on our table.  Do your part to celebrate National Ag Week and thank a farmer! To keep up with our National Ag Week school visits, follow us at South Dakota Farm Families on Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter.
